Review of '“Clarity” (Single) by Echoes Away

A soothing strumming pattern opens the latest track, “Clarity”, from the Mapleton, Utah based solo act, Echoes Away. Compared to prior releases as this blossoming project, Andrew Conners made a point that “Clarity” has a slightly different attitude about it - and much less bite. Think a mellow sounding John Mayer who can’t leave his angsty pop-punk roots behind, yet still culminates a full band sound by the conclusion of the track. Better yet, envision a softer Balance and Composure tone - same mood. The slow sonic burn leading to the reprise around roughly the 4:00 mark patronizes the ears as the lyrics haunt the listener to a subdued state of recognition that at it’s core, this is truly, “Sad music for lonely people”.

“…I've opened my eyes

Everything's clear

You were never even here..”

-Excerpt from “Clarity

Take a few minutes to listen through what Echoes Away has to offer with their 3 previous releases, “Balance”, “Haze”, and “Tired Lungs” as one will quickly understand the musical development which has occurred since the announced hiatus of Andrew’s former project, Wired for Havoc. Working through Dry Heat Recordings, Andrew aims to release a full collection of songs as Echoes Away by summer of 2020, so we definitely have not seen the last of this serene side project. Make sure to keep an eye out on Dear Untitled for more coverage to come in the near future! - Nic B.
