“Lashed Out”
“Lashed Out” by False Idols – Review by Nic Beardsley of Dear Untitled:
“…Call me when you come back to shore
sink or swim I know that you need me…”
– Excerpt from “Lashed Out“
One could argue that the ‘cliche’ story of “boy meets girl, they hit it off, then somehow the relationship crashes and heartbreak ensues” , has been told a million times before….but we ask, “So what?!”. Story lines such as these always tease out some powerful emotion and gut wrenching heartache, just as the latest track, “Lashed Out” by our friends in False Idols expresses. (I mean who doesn’t enjoy shedding a “sad boi” tear every now and then at work?…we’re not crying *sniffle* YOU’RE CRYING!)
“…I lashed out…
with the common cure for happy ending
I hate the shady side of things…“
– Excerpt from “Lashed Out“
There is genuinely something special about Gonzales‘s vocals across his repertoire of songs – the effortlessly ‘haunting’ effect that floating subtly above the composition every single time. It is as if he manifests himself as the voice inside your head which expresses every single emotion you could possibly be feeling at any given time, happy or sad. The dynamic ebb of this piece, meshed with a potent seashore analogy, unveils a tactful apology layered over a pained state of vulnerability and longing –
“…Call me when you come back to shore
sink or swim I know that you need me…”
– Excerpt from “Lashed Out“
While this track tugs at the heartstrings of even the coldest human, guitarist, Darin Rinn , gave us a brief insight into the track:
“…We wanted to throw different vibes out but also give everyone a taste of what we’re best at too, so it’s a kind of blend…” – Darin Rinn
If you are unfamiliar with this powerhouse supergroup involved in comprising False Idols , simply take the heavy hitting members Tyler Gonzales and Darin Rinn from Balancing the Different , add in the catchy drums of Cody Cook (Across the Atlantic), and riffy vibes from Tyler Slatton (Like Ghosts/Balancing the Different) and voila! Magic is MADE. In our book this lineup equates to the arguably the best pop punk the scene has heard aka the epitome of V I B I N G.
With that in mind, we obviously are all about “Lashed Out” here at the blog, but what do you think? Let us know! Most importantly, go check out False Idols on all social media/streaming services, including their previous track, “Safe and Sound” below before you leave! - Nic B
