Interview (by Nic Beardsley and Andrew Sanders):
Dear Untitled: We have to ask the cliche 'about you' questions for the reader's reference as you probably can imagine, so let's get these out of the way first! How did The Danger of Falling form?
Robert Grimm: The Danger of Falling formed back in 2010, it was just a group of friends who wanted to write heavy music and hang out at local shows. Lucas, Michael, and Josh were friends throughout high school. Where Austin and myself met the group at local events in the area.
Dear Untitled: What inspires your music? What drew you to Melodic Passion Hardcore, specifically with a Christian message?
Robert: We just write music that we enjoy. We started playing melodic hardcore because it pushed us into a new type of territory that we found a home in. The message in our songs can be described in more than just Christian music, Luke tries to keep the theme of the songs based on life, faith, and other interpersonal relationships.
Dear Untitled: So a personal and emotional connection - always a solid choice!
We know you guys have the Hope/Well release and a demo since 2014, are there any other releases we may have overlooked or missed?
Robert: If you look hard enough you may be able to find some old demos on the internet that date back to the early days.
Dear Untitled: Oh sweet! We will make sure to pull those out of the internet for the readers!
We noticed you guys were tracking this weekend! Any hint when some new jams are coming out?
Robert: We are currently in the process of recording a new release that we are hoping to be sharing with everyone very soon.
Dear Untitled: That's absolutely awesome. We are extremely excited to hear your progression with the new work!
Do you have any favorite artists?
Robert: Some artists I have been jamming lately are: Counterparts, Being as an Ocean, Wither Away, Casey, A Scent Like Wolves, Softspoken, and Capsize to name a few.
Dear Untitled: All great artists who I'm sure are flattered you guys draw inspiration from. A solid recommendation from you and us to our readers to check those artists out!
So where do you see yourself in 5 years? Still in the band?
Robert: In five years, as long as I am still playing music that I believe in with people who share the same goal as myself, then that is all that matters to me.
Dear Untitled: Where is your favorite place to play a show?
Robert: Our hometown venue, 123 Pleasant Street is always a good time, The Champ out in Lemoyne, PA was like a second home to us, but it is unfortunately closing its doors in September. With that said, anywhere in the Lancaster Area of Pennsylvania has always been fun.
Dear Untitled: Pa is a great time for any heavy music, man. Lancaster especially goes crazy, like you mentioned.
Any merch, music, or current /upcoming tours you want us to endorse? (Aside from your current album, Hope/Well, of course!)
Robert: We are in the process of releasing a new EP which we hopefully have out at some point this year! That also means that we will be releasing some new merchandise as well!
Dear Untitled: Make sure you have cool shirts, and hoodies, and stickers, and...we kid. We aren't that demanding. All of that is super exciting and we would definitely love to have you guys back in to talk about the new stuff!
So let's transition to some fun questions - "The juicy details" about TDOF. Do you guys have any other cool hobbies or pastimes together outside of music?
Robert: We all have different kind of hobbies out of music. I have recently been trying to get into screen printing, Lucas (Smith) also enjoys that as well as printing making, ceramics, and photography. We all enjoy hanging out and going to local shows in our area.
Dear Untitled: Drink of Choice?
Robert: My favorite soda will always be Dr. Pepper!
Dear Untitled: So while drinking Dr. Pepper, do you have a favorite TV show you watch and have a favorite quote from that show? Personally, we enjoy The Office in our spare time!
Robert: The Office is one of my go to TV shows. The other guys don’t really care for it all that much. Some other shows I always find myself re watching are: Psych and Monk.
Dear Untitled: Anyone who tries to tell you The Office isn't worthwhile isn't worth keeping as a friend! ....Ok, that's a little extreme, but you get the picture, I'm sure!
Anything last fun fact / favorite food that you’d love if fans brought you on tour?
Robert: All I want you guys to know is to just keep be ready for some new music, we are hoping to release some new songs before the end of the year! Thank you for taking the time to talk with us!
Dear Untitled: No, thank you! It has been our pleasure to showcase you guys in our inaugural issue and you are more than welcome to drop in to hang with us anytime you want! Always game for a conversation with cool dudes like you! Hopefully you come through soon on tour and we can catch you at a show! Until next time!
