Review of “Livestream My Suicide” (Single, Aug 21st, 2020) by Dream Drop

To complement the huge signing announcement to Gain Music, Dream Drop has released a brand new controversial single and music video titled, '‘Livestream My Suicide” on August 21st, 2020. Based on a 2010 Swedish news event, this piece is designed to be a tactful critique about how numb many people are in today’s culture to many atrocities across the globe:

“...The first single out in August 2020 will have a music video and be titled, "Livestream My Suicide" - its inspired a 2010 Swedish news event - a guy basically killed himself on a livestream and put it on a Swedish Forum called 'Flashback'. This was 10 years ago and I (Joar) wanted to write a song about somebody other than myself...Its basically about that whole situation and designed to be a critique about how desensitized people are on the internet....At first listen it sounds like I (Joar) want to kill myself, but that's obviously not the case...." - Dream Drop (TDUP - Episode #32)

Opening this track with old school dial up internet tones, Dream Drop doesn’t stray far from what fans have come to know them for - a very emotionally grounded alternative sound, verging at times towards a circa 2009 mainstream radio vibe. (ie: Linkin Park, Bullet for My Valentine, Breaking Benjamin, etc.) Highlighting the gritty range of Joar’s clean vocals overtop a very groovy progressive guitar work, this song is bound to be an earworm for most consumers. The ominous tone which the band channels in this new single is also nothing new for the brand, as it is commonplace to visualize a darkened mood across their social media - a trademark black void with blood red accents. Undoubtedly, there is no argument as to the level of pride and motivation which this group invests in their work, especially an upcoming album:

"..Every aspect (of the new Dream Drop) we've improved and invested in - our most expensive music video, album cover - not that the most money means that its the best, we've just tried to make all of this the best possible work that we could ever make in every aspect and make sure that the artistic vision is is present in every part of that…." - Joar (vocalist) on TDUP - Episode #32

Incorporating a nod to some ‘hardcore’ influence in their writing, the bridge of the single is a spectacular moment where one can easily visualize a live crowd colliding with each other, like atomic particles in the venue. Reviewing their latest releases prior to “Livestream My Suicide”, the singles, “We Are Not the Same”, “Everyone’s Out”, and even “6 Months” haunt listener’s ears with a fervor only a handful of rising artists posses. Striking moments, deep lyrical content, and stunning visuals are always incredible for a piece, but the musical maturation in the span of just one year which we’ve seen from Dream Drop bodes extremely well for the upcoming full length they have in the works.

Surpassing expectations and pushing sonic boundaries, Dream Drop adds yet ANOTHER statement piece to their impressive catalogue with this new single, “Livestream My Suicide” and we look forward to the future for this extremely talented act! - Nic B
