Review of "Undertow" and "Disconnect" by Blueshift

Blueshift's debut single, "Disconnect", opens as a powerful, rift-oriented piece, and immediately pulls the listener in with its rugged vocals throughout the piece. All the markings of a skilled composition display themselves as the clean vocals enter, soaring over the underlying rhythms, and meshing into the composition with ease. The depth to the lyrics and fluidity of the music allow for everything to fall into place, which in our book, quickly establishes Blueshift as an immediate contender in the progressive metal genre.

The second single, "Undertow" begins with refreshingly atmospheric approach compared to "Disconnect"'s heavy start, gradually layering in the muted vocals until the group hits full stride with the commanding vocals screams. As in "Disconnect" the range of clean vocals are given the forefront to ascend to the front of the composition, which hopefully becomes a staple in their future work. The skill of contrasted softer tones and muffled vocals rapidly transitioning to an "in your face", heavy experience makes us love everything about this track. It sneaks up on you. The superb vocal range, poise, and musical ability of the group is on full display in "Undertow" - an audible adventure you don't want to miss.

Having been described as "the second generation of Erra", is nothing short of a compliment for this up and coming prog metal band out of Northern Alabama - we definitely love what they currently have in "Disconnect" and "Undertow" and look forward to hearing more of their work in the near future!
